MC number lookup

An MC number is the docket number FMCSA assigns with interstate operating authority. Type "MC 123456" in the search box above to find the carrier, its USDOT number and whether its authority is active.

How to search by MC number

  • Enter the number with the MC prefix, for example MC 135797, so we know it is a docket number and not a USDOT number
  • We match it to the carrier's USDOT record in the FMCSA census
  • The result opens the carrier's compliance check: USDOT status, authority status, MCS-150 date, safety rating and inspections

What an MC number tells you

An active MC number means FMCSA granted operating authority to haul regulated freight for hire across state lines. Authority can be revoked, for example when required insurance lapses or a BOC-3 is missing, so check the status, not just that a number exists.

MC number lookup questions

Yes. Every MC number is tied to a USDOT record. Search the MC number and we show the USDOT number on the result.

Private carriers and intrastate carriers often need only a USDOT number. MC authority is for for-hire interstate transport of regulated commodities.
