# What is Hours of service?

Federal limits on how long CMV drivers can drive and be on duty.

Property-carrying drivers may drive 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty, may not drive after the 14th hour on duty, need a 30-minute break after 8 hours of driving, and are limited to 60 hours in 7 days or 70 hours in 8 days.

A 34-hour off-duty period restarts the weekly limit.
